How to Compare Two Job Offers Beyond the Salary Number

September 23, 2026 · 1 min de lecture

The higher number isn't always the better offer once you look at the full picture.

Comparing job offers on base salary alone misses most of what actually affects your day-to-day life and long-term earnings.

Build a full comparison

List base salary, bonus or commission structure, benefits (health, dental, retirement matching), vacation days, and any equity or stock options for each offer side by side.

Factor in the intangibles

Commute time, remote flexibility, team culture, and growth trajectory affect your quality of life and future earning potential just as much as this year's paycheque.

Think two years out

A lower starting offer at a company with faster promotion cycles or better skill development can outperform a higher offer with a flat trajectory.
