How to Talk About Money Without Feeling Awkward

September 8, 2026 · 1 min de lecture

A little reframing makes compensation conversations feel far less uncomfortable.

Many people find salary discussions genuinely uncomfortable, often for cultural or personal reasons. A shift in mindset can make it feel much more manageable.

Reframe it as a business conversation

You're discussing the value of your work, not asking for a personal favour.

Use neutral, factual language

  • "Based on my research..."
  • "For a role with this scope..."
  • "To make this work for me, I'd need..."

Practice out loud beforehand

Saying the actual numbers out loud a few times, even alone, makes the real conversation feel less foreign.

Remember it gets easier with repetition

Like any skill, salary conversations become more comfortable each time you have one.
