Career Fairs Are Back: How to Actually Get Value From One

August 27, 2026 · 1 min read

A little preparation turns a career fair from a crowded room into real leads.

In-person and virtual job fairs are still one of the fastest ways to meet several employers in a single afternoon — if you walk in with a plan.

Research exhibitors ahead of time

Most events publish a list of attending employers in advance. Pick five to ten you actually want to talk to.

Prepare a 20-second introduction

  • Your name and current or target role
  • One or two strengths relevant to that employer
  • What you're looking for next

Bring printed resumes and dress the part

Even at casual events, a clean, current resume in hand makes a strong first impression.

Follow up within 48 hours

Connect on LinkedIn or send a short email referencing your conversation while it's still fresh for them.
