Common Interview Mistakes That Are Easy to Avoid

September 5, 2026 · 1 min de lecture

Most interview failures come down to a handful of avoidable, fixable issues.

Interviews are stressful, and small missteps happen — but a few common mistakes are worth specifically guarding against.

Arriving late or logging in late

Aim to arrive 10 minutes early in person, or log into a video call 2–3 minutes ahead.

Not researching the company

  • What the company actually does and who its customers are
  • Recent news, launches, or changes
  • The specific team or department you'd be joining

Speaking negatively about a past employer

Even valid criticism can come across as a red flag about how you'll speak about this company someday.

Not having any questions prepared

Always have at least two ready, even if some get answered along the way.

Rambling without a clear point

If you notice yourself going long, wrap up with a summary sentence rather than trailing off.
