Following Up After an Interview: What to Send and When

September 3, 2026 · 1 min de lecture

A thoughtful follow-up note is a small effort with outsized impact.

A short thank-you message after an interview is still expected in most industries, and it's an easy way to stand out with very little effort.

Send it within 24 hours

Email is standard and appropriate for almost every industry and level.

Keep it short and specific

  • Thank them for their time
  • Reference one specific thing you discussed
  • Reaffirm your interest in the role

Send individual notes if you met multiple people

A slightly different note to each interviewer, referencing your specific conversation with them, makes a stronger impression than one generic group email.

Don't panic if you forget

A follow-up sent two or three days later is still worthwhile — better late than not at all.
