Group Interviews: How They Work and How to Stand Out

September 22, 2026 · 1 min de lecture

Interviewed alongside other candidates? Here is what employers are actually watching for.

Group interviews are common in retail, hospitality, and high-volume hiring. Multiple candidates are assessed together, often through a discussion or group task.

What employers are evaluating

They're watching how you collaborate, listen, and handle disagreement — not just whether your ideas are the best in the room.

How to contribute well

Speak early so you're not overlooked, but don't dominate the conversation. Build on other candidates' points by name ("adding to what Sam said...") — it demonstrates active listening.

What to avoid

Don't interrupt, don't visibly compete for airtime, and don't stay silent the whole session. Both extremes stand out for the wrong reason.
