How to Answer 'Tell Me About Yourself' Without Rambling

September 1, 2026 · 1 min de lecture

This is almost always the first question — a tight, structured answer sets the tone for the whole interview.

It's an open-ended question, which is exactly why it trips people up. A simple structure keeps your answer focused and confident.

Use a present-past-future structure

  • Present: your current role or situation in one sentence
  • Past: how you got here, briefly
  • Future: why you're excited about this specific role

Keep it to 60–90 seconds

Longer than that and you risk losing the interviewer's attention before the real questions start.

Tie it to the job you're interviewing for

Choose the parts of your story that connect most directly to this specific role, not your entire life history.

Practice out loud, not just in your head

It sounds different — and often longer — once you actually say it.
