What Interviewers Notice in the First Five Minutes
September 22, 2026 · 1 min de lecture
First impressions form fast — here is what to get right before the questions even start.
Research on interviewer behaviour suggests many form an early impression well before the structured questions begin, based on small, observable signals.
What actually gets noticed
Punctuality (arriving 5–10 minutes early, not 30), a genuine greeting, appropriate eye contact, and how you handle small talk all register before your first real answer.
For virtual interviews
Camera framing, lighting, and a tested connection matter just as much — joining late due to a tech issue reads the same as arriving late in person.
Why this matters, without overthinking it
A strong opening doesn't guarantee an offer, and a slightly awkward one doesn't guarantee rejection — but showing basic preparedness sets a positive frame for everything that follows.
